How to exclude categories using WP-API 1

I have a wordpressblog and get my data via WP-API.

Now I would like to exclude a category from my index page.

I get my posts for the index pages like this

posts?page=1

And I get all posts related to a category like this

posts?page=1&filter[category_name]=category

Is there a way to exclude categories?
