Image Gallery with thumbs and categories - Wordpress

I am building a sidebar widget inside Wordpress and I would like someone to point me in the correct direction:

I am trying to build the gallery as shows below

The gallery has 5 main images and 6 categories. When a user clicks one of the categories i would like the images to change. They will change depending on the category the users chooses.

is there any Wordpress plug -ins that I could use to achieve this? Or any JavaScript library?

Any guidance to help me create this would be great as I don't know were to start!
